Message Notes 4.4.21 | The Wrath Of God Is Satisfied | 1 Thessalonians 1:9-10
(1 Thessalonians 1:9–10 ESV)
For they themselves report concerning us the kind of reception we had among you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come.
I. There is a certain wrath to come.
A. The character of God assures it.
B. All who have not trusted in the risen Christ are in imminent danger.
II. Jesus offers a rescue from the wrath to come.
A. To be rescued, we must hear the gospel.
when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his mighty angels in flaming fire, inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. They will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might,
(2 Thessalonians 1:7–9 ESV)
B. To be rescued, we must believe the gospel.
C. To be rescued, we must turn to God from our idols.
III. Those who are rescued by Jesus submit to God and wait for Jesus.
For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. Therefore encourage one another with these words.
(1 Thessalonians 4:16–18 ESV)
