Message Notes 1.31.21 | How Can We Persevere? | 2 Peter 3:14-16
2 Peter 3:14–16 (ESV)
14 Therefore, beloved, since you are waiting for these, be diligent to be found by him without spot or blemish, and at peace. 15 And count the patience of our Lord as salvation, just as our beloved brother Paul also wrote to you according to the wisdom given him, 16 as he does in all his letters when he speaks in them of these matters. There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures.
I. By sustaining the hope of His coming.
II. By holy living.
Romans 12:18 (ESV)
18 If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.
III. By having a heart for the lost.
2 Timothy 2:10 (ESV)
10 Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.
IV. By understanding the scriptures.
A. All scripture is inspired by God.
2 Timothy 3:16 (ESV)
16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,
B. Scripture is often misused to justify sin.
C. The deeper we get into scripture, the deeper our love for one another.
D. How do we deal with difficult texts?
2 Timothy 2:15 (ESV)
15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.
