Certain Judgment and Certain Deliverance | 2 Peter 2:4-10a
This text is like one giant if-then statement. Look at verse 4 that “if” could be rendered since because there is no doubt in what Peter is saying. What Peter is doing is building towards his conclusion in verse 9. The idea here is that “since God did not spare the angels when they sinned; and since He did not spare the ancient world in the flood, but preserved Noah; and since he did not spare Sodom and Gomorrah. But rescued Lot; then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly and to keep the ungodly under punishment for the day of judgment”. These examples of judgment are Peter giving a warning to not follow false teachers. The examples of rescue are Peter encouraging the people to follow the Lord. Even when many around us live as if there will be no judgment.
